Art Journaling (we call it Art Church)

Art Church is about paying attention to your process of art making in an intentional and sacred way. It's about honoring the subconscious, and the magic that happens when we work together in silence.

“The universe buries strange jewels deep within us all, and then stands back to see if we can find them.”

Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic

In Art Journaling you can work with paints, collage imagery,

any kind of art supplies: watercolor, crayons, stencils, sprays, .... But this is the most important thing: It's not so much about the final product, it's about the process of making the art in a mindful way. It takes some time to let the muse in. It's not about making art for the wall. It's about making art from the heart. Art is a vehicle into the unknown. And we all go there together. There is zero judgement in Art Church.

We all support each other in our journey.

Live from a place of willingness to risk

instead of constant risk management.

What is Wabi Sabi?

It is a Japanese phrase and concept dating back many centuries. Imperfection is the basic principle of Wabi-Sabi. “Wabi” is said to be defined as “rustic simplicity” and “Sabi” is translated to “taking pleasure in the imperfect.”

I chose this Japanese phrase for my studio because of the old barn that is part of my studio, but also Wabi Sabi is a perfect name for the creating we do. The process of art making can be messy and imperfect. I also love that Wabi Sabi is also about accepting our beautiful imperfect selves with love and reverence.

Here is a short video about the concept of Wabi Sabi if you want to know more.
